Uses for Fertilizer and Compost
Compost or fertilizer? What is the difference? Which
one should you use in your yard or garden? Or should you use both? Or no
one? People who are interested to grow their own plants and trees
wants to generate a healthy environment in garden. To keep your plants
growing as strenuously as possible, many gardeners consider using
compost or fertilizer. Compost is a pure natural organic material and it
is used improve the quality, health and fallow of your soil. Whereas
fertilizers can be either organic or chemical, and contains specific
elements in a fixed ratios that plants can use to grow. We’ll discuss
about organic homemade composts.
WHAT IS A COMPOST?
Compost
is the decomposition of organic material. Compost is made with material
such as leaves, waste organic material, shredded twigs, and kitchen
scraps from plants.
To gardeners, compost is
considered "black gold" because of its many benefits in the garden.
Compost is a great material for garden soil. Adding compost to clay
soils makes them easier to work and plant. In sandy soils, the addition
of compost improves the water holding capacity of the soil. By adding
organic matter to the soil, compost can help improve plant growth and
health.
The benefits of compost include
providing nutrients as fertilizer to the crop, acting as soil
conditioner, increasing the humus or humic acids content of the soil,
and introducing beneficial colonies of microbes in the soil, which help
in suppressing pathogens.
WHAT IS A FERTILIZER?
Fertilizer
is a natural or chemical substance that is spread to the soil of the
plants to improve growth and productivity and also helps to regrow the
plant. They provide nutrients and protein to the plants and trees.
COMPOST VS FERTILIZER?
In
a simple way the difference between compost and fertilizer is that
compost feeds the soil whereas fertilizer feeds the plant or tree.
Compost
gives nutrition to the soil which helps to not to make the land barren
and also let the plant grow healthier. Fertilizer is added to the soil
to provide the essential nutrients to the plant. Fertilizer is mainly
rich in one to two nutrient in a fixed ratio but compost is homemade so
that it is rich in different types of nutrition. You can use fertilizer
without compost, but why miss an opportunity to increase your soil’s
fertility and its ability to hold moisture. That is why farmers prefers
compost more than a fertilizer.
WHY DO A PLANT NEEDS COMPOST?
Compost
brings and feeds diverse life in the soil. These bacteria, fungi,
insects, worms and more support healthy plant growth. Compost bacteria
break down organics into plant available nutrients. Some bacteria
convert nitrogen from the air into a plant available nutrient.
Here
I have so many types of organic compost and homemade fertilizers which
will instantly complete the nutritional need of your plants.
Sometimes
we don't know but our plant needs the protein and nutrients to grow in a
healthy way. So it is very important to fulfill the essential
requirement of your plant.
Given below are some of the organic compost and liquid fertilizer:-
• TEA FERTILIZER
The
first fertilizer is for a rose plant. Rose plant likes an acidic type
of fertilizer. So for this plant we will use regular tea or a used
regular tea. As used tea is easily available in our home so it needs no
cost. Now let's learn the method of preparation. Take a glass container
of about 2 litre of quantity. Fill it with water. Now use the tea
fertilizer. It's very easy. Take half a cup of tea. You need to wash the
tea to remove the impurities. Leave it for a day in bright sunlight. If
it is used, wash it properly and leave it in sunlight for two days
because used tea needs to loose its milk particles. When the tea becomes
dry, pour the tea in water. And again leave it for one day. Water
changes its colour to reddish-brown. After it seive the water. And your
first fertilizer is ready to use. You will see the results within 14 to
15 days. We can use this fertilizer in other plants also such as money
plant, tiger rose, and other leafy plant, etc. You will see the best
results.
•BANANA PEEL FERTILIZER
All
of us love to see our garden full of flowers. So this fertilizer is for
plants to produce more flowers naturally. It will also make your
flowers everlasting. We can prepare this fertilizer with two methods.
One is with the dried rind of banana and second is with fresh banana
rind. Both of them will completely dissolve in water and also dissolve
their nutrients in water. Firstly, cut the banana peel into small parts.
And put in water container. Many of you are unknown with the benifits
of banana. As banana have potassium in a high ammount. Potassium is the
major component in any flowering plant to produce flower. Banana is the
highest organic source of potassium. It means that you can use this
fertilizer in any flowering plant. I suggest you to use this fertilizer
mostly in rose and hibiscus plant. The fertilizer will get ready in
nearly 24 hours. Colour of water will turn to dirty-green. Sieve the
water and apply it in your plants.
•EGG SHELL FERTILIZER
This
fertilizer mainly for your adenium and boehmianum plant. This
fertilizer helps the plant to grow fastly and become healthy and fit.
Let's prepare the third fertilizer. Take a container full of water. Take
about 3 to 4 egg shells. Wash the shells and crush shells of egg and
then add it to the water. The fertilizer will prepare within 2 to 3
days. After 3 days, sieve the water. Now apply the solution in the
plant.
• COW DUNG FERTILIZER
Do you
like to grow vegetables at home. This fertilizer will help your
vegetables to grow fastly and strongly. This fertilizer is the strongest
of all fertilizers. And also the most used fertilizer in gardening or
farming. Take a piece of dried cow dung or fully decomposed cow dung.
Dip it in water. It will prepare in 24 hours by turning the reddish
colour of water. You can use it any season but remember that you should
not apply this fertilizer in extremely hot season. Along with the
vegetables, we can also use this fertilizer in rost plant.
•DAP FERTILIZER
This
is a chemical fertilizer. It can increase the flowering of plant and
sometimes it increases the size of flower. Take some DAP fertilizer in
hot water. It will dissolve in 6 hours. Now the fertilizer is ready to
use. Use this fertilizer only in seasonal plants such as moss rose.
•ONION PEEL FERTILIZER
This
fertilizer will fulfill the lack of micronutrients. And this will also
help in overall development of your plant. Pour some waste peel in the
glass bowl. Leave it for one day. Water colour turns blood-red. This can
be used in hibiscus, peppermint, portulaca, rose, etc.
This
is too little. We will discuss about many more fertilizers and compost
in another part. Let this part end. I'll come with another part soon.
Stay tuned with me.
